Divorce

Where a marriage has broken down irretrievably the decision to divorce remains a major one for most people. We can help you with that decision by explaining the law and process for obtaining a divorce, judicial separation, dissolving a civil partnership or obtaining a decree of nullity.

Our aim is to make the process as painless as possible for both parties and we will advise you of the ways to avoid creating unnecessary animosity between you and the other party.

As Legal Aid is no longer available for divorce, we can offer a fixed-fee arrangement in straightforward cases and we will also advise you of the likely cost of surmounting any unusual difficulties.

Pre-Nuptial Agreements

If you are thinking about getting married or entering into a civil partnership, we can help you to draft a pre-nuptial agreement to set out how your assets would be dealt with if you were to separate.

Because there are no ‘automatic’ rights created by living together, you may find issues relating to your children, finances, home and child maintenance arise if your relationship breaks down. Our experienced team will work closely with you to develop a solution that is tailored to your situation and fair to everyone.

Legal Aid

You may be able to access public funding, known as Legal Aid, to assist in resolving your family dispute.

Legal Aid is available for certain family cases relating to finances and/or children, when there is evidence of domestic abuse or child abuse, or in cases where an order to protect someone from domestic abuse is needed.

You can access Legal Aid for mediation, this will depend upon your ability to pay and whether mediation is right for you. If you are eligible for Legal Aid to cover the costs of mediation you are also entitled to some independent legal advice funded through Legal Aid.

To see if you are eligible please see the link to the calculator at www.gov.uk/check-legal-aid
